Balqon has a road-ready day cab truck and chassis ready for deployment in Californa. The company builds the battery electric (BEV) trucks which can be fitted with a variety of cargo options including flatbed, box, and refrigerated van. The trucks are capable of carrying up to 7 tons of cargo, have a rante of 90-150 miles per charge, and are known as the Mule M-150.
The Mule has a maximum speed of 55mph (California truck speed), can handle grades up to 5% fully loaded, and requires six hours for a full charge. The batteries in the M-150, however, can be swapped for a fully-charged battery pack in about twenty minutes. The batteries are lithium-ion and located in the box on the driver’s side, where the fuel tank would normally hang.
The Mule’s GVWR is 52,500 (12,500 front axle, 40,000 rear tandem) pounds and its bed is 194 inches long.
The motor has an output of 300hp (230V AC) and, like all electrics, delivers full torque from 0RPMs on up. The smaller frame is of the laminated square-box type to handle the extra torque on the smaller vehicle and the drive train with a rugged Allison 3000 RDS automatic transmission and Dana D46-590 rear drive (tandem) in a custom ratio. The truck is fully air suspended.
While currently on sale in California, the Mule M-150 can be purchased nationally and service centers are available in most major cities around the country. Balqon also makes the Nautilus series of drayage trucks which are currently operating in several ports in California.
