A convoy of green big trucks took to the streets of Brooklyn last week to convey a message of cleaner emissions and more sustainable fuels to New York area businesses. Sponsored by the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC), the convoy was made up of trucks from several Brooklyn-area businesses, all of which utilize green technologies and practices.
The trucks rolled through South Brooklyn and included rigs from Quadrozzi Concrete, Greg’s Express, Metro Fuel and Movers-Not-Shakers, and more. It began at SBIDC headquarters in Red Hook and ended in Sunset Park at delivery customer Sadahi Fine Foods.
Several local non-profits joined in to support the convoy, bringing their own clean vehicles to the line.
All of the companies involved are concerned for the local environment and have taken initiatives to protect it without government help or legislation. “We don’t just work here,” says John Quadrozzi, Jr., who owns Quadrozzi Concrete, “we live here as well.”
The convoy showed residents that not only do local businesses care about the environment in a proactive way, but that the sometimes intrusive nature of trucks on city streets doesn’t mean they don’t care about their neighbors. Local businesses have put their money where their mouths are and are showing their neighbors that a better quality of life is also part of the bottom line.
